Off Season Training Program

The off season (Fall/Winter/Spring) is the time of year where our athletes make real progress in the sport of Canoe/Kayak. Each of our programs are designed around age appropriate training according to the Canoe Kayak Canada Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD).

For our younger athletes aged U12 though U15, we extend the fun and comradery of the summer program, mixed with skill building and aerobic conditioning. This age group is considered LTAD Train to Train and is offered up to 6 practices per week.

As the athletes get older and move onto U16, we integrate anaerobic and strength training into the program, as well. They are then considered to be in the category of LTAD Train to Compete, offering between 8 and 10 practices per week.

There are three programs available for off season training:

Year Round

  • Monthly billing @ $145/month
  • Most popular and economical option
  • Includes total annual membership, fund raising, and CKC fees are spread over 12 payments
  • The benefit is that there is no separate summer registration
  • The best ‘try it out’ option, as you can leave the program at any time or switch it to another program
  • *NEW* Now includes a Sackville Sports Stadium Youth Membership!

Full Time Seasonal

  • Seasonal billing @ $350/season
  • Fall, Winter, and Spring are all billed separately
  • Athletes are still required to pay full summer membership, fund raising and CKC fees at the beginning of the summer program
  • The advantage is for those who are not able to train for a whole season and don’t want to pay a year round membership

Pick Three Seasonal

  • Seasonal billing @ $225/season
  • Fall Winter and Spring are all billed separately
  • Athletes are still required to pay full summer membership, fund raising and CKC fees at the beginning of the summer program
  • This program is geared to those who are involved in other sports and would still like participate in the sport.
  • Athletes looking to train competitively while participating in other or school sports will use this program
  • Option to pick any 3 of the regularly scheduled practices.
  • Scheduled pick are at the beginning of the program; however, the athlete can change their scheduled practices with the coach’s approval.

FAQS

  • The minimum entry age for off season training is U12 in the following competition season (athletes leaving Atom and going into Peewee)
  • Fall is mostly paddling, running, and some fitness training
  • Winter is swimming, running, fitness training, and weight training according to age and ability
  • Spring is back on the water again, combined with running and fitness training
  • In March, athletes entering U14 (Bantam) have the opportunity to participate in our annual Florida Training Camp for 3, 4, 5, or 6 weeks, depending on age and ability
  • Although many athletes have their own equipment, Sackawa provides all the equipment needed for off season training except for life jackets, which are required when the water temperature drops below 8°C
